Thefts of charging cables at electric vehicle (EV) stations pose an additional challenge to the appeal of EVs, as thieves target these stations to steal the copper wiring inside the cables at near-record prices. The stolen cables often disable entire charging stations, forcing EV owners on the road to search desperately for a working charger. This trend is increasing across the US as more charging stations are built.
