Christchurch's mayor urges the Central government to secure funding for local-led community projects, highlighting the 40 Carey Street homes as a model. The first mixed housing project in the suburb of Somerfield features affordable rentals, community houses, and gradual home ownership, targeted at families. Housing Minister Chris Bishop and Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga's Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust (ŌCHT) launched the project, which includes 11 public houses, representing a shift from 32 bedsits in the 1940s.
