Brisbane introduces a permit system for Airbnb properties to address housing supply impact.

Brisbane will introduce a permit system for property owners to operate Airbnbs, as the city aims to regulate the rise in short-stay accommodation and address the impact on the housing supply. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner stated that less than one per cent of housing in Brisbane is used for short-stay accommodation, but it still adds to the housing crisis. The council's new permit system will require property owners to have appropriate planning approvals, body corporate support, and a 24/7 property manager. Properties that fail to meet these requirements will be forced to return to the long-term rental market.
