20-year-old Guatemalan fisherman, Angel Gabriel Martin Vasquez, drowned in Long Branch Creek in West Ashley, SC on June 6. Vasquez jumped in to cool off but was caught in a strong current, despite bystanders' rescue attempts. The Charleston County Sheriff's crews found and recovered his body hours later, closing Savannah Highway for three hours during the search. The cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning.
