Researchers found a multi-drug resistant "superbug" bacteria, Enterobacter bugandensis, on the International Space Station.

Researchers from India's IIT Madras and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory discovered a multi-drug resistant bacteria, Enterobacter bugandensis, on the International Space Station (ISS). Known as a "superbug," the bacterium has evolved in the closed environment of the ISS and can infect the human respiratory system. The findings could have significant applications on Earth, particularly for astronaut health, and may also inform strategies for managing microbial contamination in closed environments such as spacecraft and hospitals.
