22 urban forestry projects in Illinois, including Effingham, received $6.9M from Morton Arboretum, guided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Effingham will use its $50k to inventory trees, create a management plan, and plant new trees in disadvantaged areas. The awarded projects aim to plant over 1,800 trees, remove hazardous ones, and improve environmental conditions in underserved areas.
