5,000 fish killed in suspected pollution incident on Cork river; River Allow affected area is a noted spawning habitat for fish including salmon and brown trout. Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) is investigating the incident, which occurred on the River Allow, a tributary of the Munster Blackwater catchment at Freemount, north county Cork. The pollution spill occurred in a Special Area of Conservation, and fish deaths were observed up to four kilometres downstream.
