A woman testified in a murder trial that her then-boyfriend, Paul Anthony Quinlan, repeatedly punched and kicked Scott Pilton, who later died from severe head injuries. Quinlan pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in the Brisbane Supreme Court. Prosecutors claimed Pilton, 48, endured one or more drunken, brutal attacks, with at least one having murderous intent. Quinlan's defense argued the jury must decide if he attacked Pilton with the intention to kill or cause grievous harm.
