The Victorian state government has confirmed a preferred route for the Melbourne Metro 2 rail line, which includes an underground station near Marvel Stadium in Docklands and two more in Fishermans Bend, a large urban renewal area. Fishermans Bend is forecast to house 80,000 residents, 80,000 workers, and 20,000 students by 2050. Stalled public transport connections have delayed housing and commercial developments in the area.
