Once called Nantucket fever, tick-borne illness Babesiosis is on the rise, with a significant increase in incidence over the last decade. Found in New England and expanding to Virginia to Maine and the upper Midwest, Babesiosis can be treated with a seven to 10-day course of antibiotics azithromycin and atovaquone, but in some cases, the parasite isn't fully eradicated.
