India's Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved government assistance for constructing 3 crore (30 million) homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. This decision aims to provide affordable housing to economically weaker sections and low-income groups, demonstrating the government's commitment to addressing the housing shortage in the country. Since 2015-16, PMAY has completed 4.21 crore houses for poor families, providing them with essential features such as household toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and functional household taps by utilizing various central and state government schemes.
