Oxford study suggests a glowing dye helps surgeons remove more prostate cancer tissue by targeting specific proteins.
A glowing dye could help surgeons remove more of prostate cancer during operations, according to a study by the University of Oxford. The dye, which attaches to a specific protein found only on cancer cells, could enable doctors to identify and remove areas of cancerous tissue not seen by the naked eye or other clinical methods, potentially reducing the risk of the disease returning. A larger trial is now planned, funded by Cancer Research UK.
