North Pacific Fishery Management Council discusses data collection expansion in response to climate change impacts on Alaska's marine fisheries.
Climate change is causing significant disruptions to Alaska's marine fisheries, leading to shifts in fish populations and impacts on fish-dependent communities. In response, the North Pacific Fishery Management Council held a workshop to discuss the need for more extensive federal data collection and changes in data collection methods. NOAA Fisheries is adapting to these changes with a new standardized bottom trawl survey for the Bering Sea and modernizing survey methods for efficiency and flexibility.
