Nigeria Customs Service seized 280,135 litres of petrol in 7 days, targeting PMS smugglers valued at N197 million.

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Comptroller-General, Bashir Adeniyi, declared war on PMS smugglers, with smuggled PMS valued at N197 million raising national economic sabotage concerns. NCS seized 280,135 litres of petrol in 7 days, with Operation Whirlwind capturing 105,950 liters, while Federal Operating Units and Marine Command seized 120,185 liters. Adeniyi acknowledged that the seizure is a small fraction of the estimated illicit trade, citing price disparities between Nigeria and its neighbors as the main driver for smuggling.
