Human Rights Watch reports that over 170 images and personal details of Brazilian children were extracted from an open-source data set without their knowledge or consent, and used to train AI. The images and data were taken from content published from 2023 and the mid-1990s, and were included in LAION-5B, a popular dataset used by AI startups. The AI tools could create realistic images of children, violating their privacy.
