Aldi installs facial recognition devices at self-service checkouts for theft prevention.

Aldi, an Australian supermarket chain, is installing new recording devices at self-service checkouts in its stores as a security measure against theft. The devices, located at head height, capture customers' faces without recording their shopping transactions. The company already has CCTV in all its stores, complying with surveillance laws, and aims to have self-checkouts in 200 of its 580 stores by the end of 2023.
