Irish President Michael D. Higgins has been awarded the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO) prestigious Agricola Medal in recognition of his significant contributions to global food security, poverty alleviation, and nutrition. The FAO Director-General, Dr. Qu Dongyu, presented the medal at a ceremony in Áras an Uachtaráin. President Higgins is the first Irish person to receive this honour.
