Guyana's Cabinet has banned the use of "Negro" and "East Indian" in official records of the police and health sector facilities, following concerns about the use of "negro" to describe a political activist's detention. The new descriptions will be "Guyanese of African descent" and "Guyanese of Indian descent." This decision comes after a call by Attorney Nigel Hughes and various Afro-Guyanese rights organizations.
