Supreme Court orders Himachal Pradesh and Haryana to increase water supply to Delhi due to severe water shortage.

The Supreme Court of India has ordered water-rich states, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana, to increase their water supply to Delhi to address its severe water shortage due to a prolonged heat wave. Delhi relies heavily on the local Yamuna river for its water supply, and the river's levels deplete during summer, leading the local water manager, the Jal Board, to reduce the volumes it can treat for public consumption. The Supreme Court has directed Himachal Pradesh to release its surplus water to Delhi and instructed Haryana to facilitate the flow of surplus water coming from Himachal Pradesh so it reaches the national capital. Delhi is set to receive water from its neighboring states, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, after an unprecedented heatwave parched large parts of northern India and triggered a severe water crisis.
