4 individuals have been arrested, and 4 more sought, by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for an alleged large-scale human smuggling ring. The operation, believed to have smuggled hundreds of migrants into the U.S., operated via communities along the St. Lawrence River and across the border between July 2022 and June 2023. Smugglers charged migrants thousands of dollars and some died during night-time border crossings. The suspects are between 21 and 51 years old and hail from Ontario and Quebec.
