Nigeria's Federal Government plans to relocate Ikoyi Prison and other correctional facilities from urban areas due to concerns over urbanisation's impact on safety and security. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, highlighted the encroachment of urbanisation on required setbacks around correctional centres. The move comes as a response to the Suleja correctional center's age (built in 1914) and the need to modernise Nigeria's correctional infrastructure.
