Hungary's Corvinus Zrt. and French company Vinci Airports have acquired Budapest Airport from main shareholder AviAlliance and minority shareholders for €3.1bn ($3.37bn), with Hungary owning an 80% stake and Vinci holding 20%. This acquisition follows Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's government efforts to increase Hungarian ownership in sectors like energy, banking, telecoms, and media. The deal allows for airport development, including the construction of a third terminal and increased capacity for passengers and cargo.
