Dr. Karrie Dixon, former chancellor of Elizabeth City State University, has been selected as the new chancellor of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) by the UNC Board of Governors. Dixon has served as chancellor at ECSU since 2018 and has grown enrollment by nearly 70%, raised $24 million in private donations, and built partnerships that brought in nearly $300 million in state and federal funding. She succeeds Johnson Akinleye, who has served NCCU for eight years.
