Australian precision medicine program improves outcomes for high-risk cancer children with personalized treatment.
A precision medicine program in Australia has significantly improved outcomes for children with high-risk cancers. By providing personalised treatment based on detailed genetic analysis of tumor driver genes, oncologists were able to suggest drugs not typically used for that cancer type. In a study of 384 children with high-risk cancers, 55% achieved complete or partial remission or had their disease stabilised for at least six months. The Zero Childhood Cancer Program, which has treated hundreds of children with ultra-aggressive cancers, is now open to every child diagnosed with cancer in Australia.
