South Africa's Sahpra clears Benylin paediatric cough syrup of diethylene glycol contamination after recall.

South Africa's Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra) has cleared Benylin paediatric cough syrup after testing found no traces of diethylene glycol in the product. In April, Sahpra issued a country-wide recall of the syrup following reports of high levels of the contaminant in Nigeria and Kenya. No adverse drug reactions relating to diethylene glycol have been reported for the recalled batches in South Africa or elsewhere.
