1000 rare Shortjaw Kōkopu fish released in streams of Auckland's Waitākere Ranges for conservation project.

1000 rare Shortjaw Kōkopu fish were released into streams in Auckland's Waitākere Ranges as part of a conservation project to protect the species. The breeding project, a collaboration between Manāaki Technologies, Auckland Council, Watercare, local iwi Te Kawerau ā Maki, and NIWA, aims to boost the population of the species, which is found in only a few areas, mainly in the Waitākere Ranges.
