Popham Beach in Maine experiences increased quicksand incidents due to storm damage and erosion.
Quicksand incidents have increased at Popham Beach in Maine due to storm damage and erosion, causing the Morse River to flow closer to the beach and recreation areas. Park Manager Sean Vaillancourt warns that when sand becomes saturated, it can act like quicksand. Though sinkholes are not a concern, visitors may sink a few feet or up to their waist in the quicksand, typically near the river's mouth. Visitors should exercise caution while walking at the beach.
