358 endangered long-tailed bats found in Whirinaki Te Pua-ā-Tane Conservation Park, supporting predator control success.

Whirinaki Te Pua-ā-Tāne Conservation Park rangers found a large roost of endangered long-tailed bats (pekapeka), supporting the success of DOC's National Predator Control Programme in protecting them from threats like stoats, rats and possums. The roost, holding up to 358 bats, is the largest recorded for a tree roost, demonstrating the benefits of predator control for critically endangered pekapeka, native to Aotearoa New Zealand.
