20-year-old Yareni Rios-Gonzalez received an $8.5M settlement from Platteville and Fort Lupton, Colorado towns, after surviving being handcuffed in a police car that was hit by a train in Sept 2022. Rios-Gonzalez, a road rage suspect, suffered multiple injuries including broken ribs, skull fracture, broken back and leg. Both involved officers faced criminal charges and lost their jobs, and the settlement is covered by the towns' insurance policy.
