Residents in a South Island alpine village are warned to prepare for evacuation as a large fire breaks out in Mt Lyford, North Canterbury. Fire and Emergency NZ crews are responding to a house fire, which is believed to have caused a nearby vegetation fire, now contained. Due to the high risk of vegetation fires in the area, nearby residents have received a "prepare to evacuate" notice. No formal evacuations have taken place yet.
