NZTA installs snow gates at Porters Pass to improve safety and efficiency during snow events.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has installed winter snow gates at Porters Pass, SH73, a key section connecting West Coast and Canterbury, to enhance safety, reduce delays and vehicle abandonment during heavy snowfall. NZTA has previously operated similar gates in other alpine areas. The gates will be used during snow events to allow road crews to clear the road efficiently and safely.
