NSW plans to spend $447m to extend the life of its ageing Tangara train fleet by 12 years, allowing time to develop plans for a new train replacement in the state. The 55 Tangara trains make up a quarter of Sydney Trains' rolling stock and have faced major reliability risks. The funding will help ensure safe and reliable services until new trains are constructed and running.
