Nigeria Customs Service and Army repelled an attack by smugglers in Lagos, resulting in one death and two injuries. The smugglers attacked the joint patrol team with charms and machetes while attempting to evacuate seized smuggled foreign parboiled rice. A Customs officer and a Nigerian Army soldier were injured during the attack. The Customs Service stated that their personnel acted in self-defense, neutralizing the smuggling gang leader to prevent further harm.
