Federal judge in North Carolina permanently blocks some state restrictions on abortion pill dispensing, ruling them in conflict with FDA authority.

A federal judge in North Carolina has permanently blocked some state attempts to restrict how abortion pills are dispensed, ruling them unlawfully in conflict with the authority of the US Food and Drug Administration. The ruling means pregnant people can again take the medication mifepristone at home and obtain it from a pharmacy or by mail, and it prohibits state and local prosecutors, health and medical officials, and other defendants from enforcing the contested laws. The judge did, however, allow other state abortion laws to remain in effect, granting only a partial victory.
