Colson Whitehead's crime novel "Crook Manifesto" wins $50k Gotham Book Prize for outstanding works about New York City. Set in 1970s Harlem, the novel is the second book in Whitehead's planned Harlem trilogy, which began with "Harlem Shuffle" in 2021. The prize, founded by bookstore owner-philanthropist Bradley Tusk and political strategist Howard Wolfson, recognizes Whitehead's portrayal of the city's complexity.
