9 individuals, including convicted murderer Thabo Bester's girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana and her father, face charges in the escape of Bester from Mangaung Correctional Centre in May 2022 using a decoy body. Bester was recaptured in Tanzania in April 2023. The State projects the prison escape trial will last at least six months due to numerous disputes over evidence.
