Australian government approves $4-5bn extension for Collins Class submarines until early 2030s.

The Australian government has approved a $4-5bn life-of-type extension for the Collins Class submarines, beginning with HMAS Farncomb in 2026. The Collins class submarines will remain essential to national security until the early 2030s when Australia receives nuclear-powered submarines through the AUKUS partnership. The extension program will include upgrades, but Tomahawk missiles will not be added due to financial concerns.
