Study reveals higher early weight gain in children born to mothers with sleeve gastrectomy versus Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Study at Endocrine Society's meeting shows type of weight loss surgery before pregnancy impacts child's early weight gain. Children born to women with sleeve gastrectomy had higher average monthly weight gain in first 3 years vs. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. No significant birth weight differences found. Research suggests the extent of pre-pregnancy weight loss or metabolic changes from Roux-en-Y gastric bypass may influence early childhood weight trajectory.
