Malaysia's Transport Minister announces 85% lower road tax for EVs starting Jan 1, 2026.

Malaysia's Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that road tax for electric vehicles (EVs) will be 85% lower than for fossil fuel vehicles starting January 1, 2026, to encourage more people to switch to EVs. The new road tax rates for zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) or electric vehicles will be based on the power of the electric motor. The current road tax exemption for EVs will end on December 31, 2025.
