On June 4, 2024, a house on Oxley Street in Taree was destroyed by a fire that broke out around 6:20am. Fire and Rescue crews from Taree and Wingham responded and worked for 15-20 minutes to control the well-involved blaze. The occupant evacuated safely, but suffered smoke inhalation shock and lost a pet dog. The property is severely damaged and uninhabitable, with the fire believed to have started in a combined lounge/sleeping area.
