A former Belfast prison, notorious during Northern Ireland's "Troubles," has been repurposed as a whiskey distillery, drawing tourists to the area. The Crumlin Road Gaol, now home to a McConnell's Whisky distillery, aims to "do justice" to its historic significance, according to master distiller Graeme Millar. The Troubles, which ended in a 1998 peace deal, claimed over 3,500 lives.
