The EU Commission develops a hydrogen pilot mechanism by mid-2025 to boost the European hydrogen market, collaborating with Japan on policies and technology.
The European Union Commission is developing a hydrogen pilot mechanism to boost the European hydrogen market, providing clearer market insights for off-takers and suppliers. The pilot mechanism will facilitate the development of the hydrogen market by collecting and processing data on demand and supply for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, helping European off-takers match with both European and foreign suppliers. Operational by mid-2025, the mechanism will be part of the European Hydrogen Bank, aiming to enhance the ability of suppliers and consumers to make informed decisions and contribute to the growth of the hydrogen sector in Europe. Japan and the EU have also agreed to collaborate on policies to create demand and supply for clean hydrogen, and to cooperate in developing the new fuel's technology.
