Early menopause before age 40 doubles breast cancer risk and quadruples ovarian cancer risk, study finds.

A study by the University of Utah Health has found that women who experience early menopause before age 40 are at double the risk of developing breast cancer and a near four times increased risk for ovarian cancer. The study analyzed medical records of 613 women with primary ovarian insufficiency and 165 women who experienced early menopause between 1995 and 2021. The findings suggest that women with early menopause should be regularly screened for breast cancer, particularly if they have family members with cancer.
