Brisbane Court of Appeal upholds James Morton Mason's murder conviction for setting fire to his partner Alexis Parkes' house.
James Morton Mason, who murdered his partner Alexis Parkes by setting fire to her house, has lost his appeal against his murder conviction. Mason was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty by a jury in December 2022. The Brisbane Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal, stating the jury was properly instructed as his defence was brief and straightforward. Mason's defence argued there was a miscarriage of justice due to the judge in the original trial not properly summarising the defence case, but this claim was dismissed.
