5th anniversary of missing/murdered Indigenous women report: National Chief of AFN criticizes slow government progress, only 2 of 150+ calls to action implemented since 2019.

On the fifth anniversary of a national inquiry's report into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, the national chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) criticizes all levels of government for slow progress to address the crisis. Only two of the more than 150 calls to action focused on First Nations people have been implemented since 2019. The AFN calls for increased funding for Indigenous housing, justice, and programs for LGBTQ peoples to help keep women and girls safer, as the 2019 inquiry concluded Indigenous women are 12 times more likely to go missing or murdered than their non-Indigenous counterparts.
