Nigeria's food regulator, NAFDAC, has warned against the use of "Sniper" (dichlorvos) for food preservation due to its toxicity and potential to cause cancer and death. The sale of small volume dichlorvos (Sniper) has been banned since 2019, while the sale of the large volume is limited to certified agrochemicals outlets. NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has urged traders and merchants to avoid using unauthorized chemicals on food items.
