The New South Wales government has pledged a $2 billion budget for the second phase of Parramatta's light rail project, with a 12 km route from Parramatta CBD to Olympic Park and 14 stations. Serving a population of over 280,000 by 2041, the project is expected to carry 28,000 passengers daily by 2026. Stage 1, connecting Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD, is currently undergoing testing and set to be operational soon.
