Government Services Minister Bill Shorten hired a personal speechwriter for $300,000 a year over two years, despite Services Australia stating it has the capacity to provide speechwriting support. Liberal senator Linda Reynolds questioned why a speechwriter was needed when the minister already had access to department staff for speech preparation.
