The US government has purchased 3,700 acres of land near the Colorado border in New Mexico, to expand Rio Grande del Norte National Park. The Bureau of Land Management acquired the land adjacent to the national monument, for $16.6 million, to enhance public access and recreation around the park. Rio Grande del Norte National Park, situated six miles southwest of Taos, became a national monument in 2013.
