Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center issues major flood alert for Colombo due to heavy rains, advises evacuations and closes schools.

Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center (DMC) has issued a major flood alert for Colombo and other areas due to ongoing heavy rains, leading to water levels in the Kelani River and Gin River reaching spill levels. The DMC advises families living in low-lying areas to evacuate to higher grounds and the Department of Meteorology anticipates over 150 mm of rains in the western and southern provinces. All state-run schools are closed, and the DMC has requested tri-forces to be on alert for potential search and rescue operations.
